Youngsters enjoy Disney-inspired drills and sessions

Last month, global giants Disney teamed up with The FA to inspire young females across the UK to get involved with Girls’ Football Week.

The nationwide participation initiative is designed to give girls, of all ability levels, the chance to get active, make some friends and have fun.

To mark the week the Community Sports Foundation (CSF) held a series of sessions and Disney-themed drills for local, female footballers.

The sessions gave players an introduction to the fundamentals of the game, helped them build key skills and allowed them to take part in team-building exercises.

“Whether girls play regularly or are lacing their boots for the first time, the week provided a fantastic opportunity for the Foundation to inspire girls in the local area.” said CSF Girls’ Football Development Officer Connor Kerry.

“All of our sessions were put in place to support and develop links with players, schools, colleges and parents across Norfolk.”

Over 60 female students from Stalham High School took part in a range of activities during the week.

Cheryl Zeebrook PE Coordinator from the school reflected:

“It was nice to see so many girls getting involved in football. Not only did they enjoy it but several are now keen to join clubs and take their football skills to the next level.”

To add to last week’s celebrations, former Norwich City Girls’ Centre of Excellence (COE) player Lauren Hemp was named the PFA Young Player of the Year 2017/18.

The talented Bristol City forward joined the Foundation’s Girls’ Programme aged 8, and was part of it until 2015.

CSF Girls’ Football Development Manager Paige Shorten commented:

“We are very proud to have played a part in Lauren’s progress and development and are delighted she has won this prestigious award.

“Lauren is keen to inspire the next generation of Norfolk female footballers; she regularly visits our PDC sessions when she returns to the county. Hopefully Lauren’s achievement has inspired young females in Norfolk to follow in her footsteps!”

The Foundation would like to thank all players and schools that took part in Girls’ Football Week and we look forward to working with you all the in future. Find out more about our Girls Programme here.
