The Community Sports Foundation’s (CSF) annual summer football tournament returned this weekend for its eighteenth year.
Thousands of people turned out to a sun drenched Easton and Otley College for the event, which saw over 200 local youth teams battle it out to be crowned champions.
Saturday’s action saw Kirkley & Pakefield defeat Gorleston Rangers in the U10 final, while Old Catton JFC secured the U12 title for a third year in a row.
St Andrews clinched the trophy in the U14 final, winning 5-2 on penalties against Morley Youth, after a 1-1 draw.
On the Sunday, Diss Town enjoyed their first Summer Cup success, while Aylsham’s U11 squad beat Morley Youth 3-0.
Finally, North Walsham triumphed against Firside Athletic in the U9 final on penalties (6-5), following a 1-1 stalemate.
The Under 6s, Under 7s and Under 8s were non-competitive as per FA regulations, but gave many of the participants their first taste of tournament football.
A disability tournament was also held over the weekend, featuring teams from Manchester City, Arsenal, Watford, and MK Dons.
The Blues’ mixed team of amputee and PAN-disability players were the winners, seeing off Norwich City in the final.
CSF Boys’ Development Officer (U13-U16) Dan Goffin was very pleased with the tournament. He said:
“What a weekend! Credit to all the players who gave it their all, they received some first-rate support from their coaches, managers and parents.
“The Cup is an excellent recruitment tool for our Player Development Centre, and it was great to have the opportunity to see so many talented youngsters this year.
“A special mention to the disability teams who made the long journey to Norwich, it was good to have you here.”
The Foundation would like to place on record their thanks to Holden Motor Group, Link Radio Services, 4Sports group, Errea, Norwich City FC and Easton & Otley College for supporting this year’s event.
