Premier League Disability Football Festival comes to The Nest

Young people from several club community organisations came together at The Nest on Thursday 23 July as Norwich City Community Sports Foundation proudly hosted a Premier League Disability Football Festival – a celebration of inclusive sport that created a memorable day for everyone involved.

Teams from Norwich City, Ipswich Town, Colchester United and West Bromwich Albion took part in a full programme of football, wellbeing and enrichment activities, with players representing their clubs through disability and SEND pathways. Norwich City’s squad was selected from the Foundation’s Realising Potential programme, which supports young people with disabilities and special educational needs to thrive.

The festival featured a leaguestyle football tournament, with Norwich City lifting the trophy after a series of impressive performances. Ipswich Town were recognised with the Fair Play Award in appreciation of the sportsmanship they showed throughout the day.

Alongside the tournament, participants took part in footballthemed skill challenges and a wellbeing workshop in The Box, focusing on fitness, healthy lifestyles and the role football can play in supporting physical and mental wellbeing.

A major highlight for many was the chance to see the Premier League trophy up close, creating plenty of excitement and prompting countless photos throughout the day.

Rupert Appleton, Head of Inclusion at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, said the festival was a fantastic opportunity for young people to come together, build confidence, and enjoy the game.

“It was an amazing experience for every young person who came to The Nest. We’re incredibly grateful to the Premier League and the Premier League Foundation for making days like this possible.

“The memories created at the event – playing for their club, meeting new friends, seeing the Premier League trophy – will stay with the players for a very long time.

“Events like this give our Realising Potential participants the chance to showcase their skills and grow in confidence. You could see how proud they were to pull on a Norwich shirt and represent the Foundation.”
