Foundation to host United for Change Volunteer Recruitment Day at The Nest

On Tuesday 21st July, The Nest is playing host to a young peoples volunteer recruitment day, as part of the Foundation’s involvement in the United for Change project.

Running from 10am – 12.30pm, the event will give aspiring volunteers aged between 14 and 20 (up to 25 for SEND) a chance to find out more about volunteering opportunities available across the Foundation’s community provision. There will also be further insight into the United for Change project, an EFL-funded social action project, with an impetus on helping young people identify areas of their community where they want to see change or improvement.

What is United for Change?

United for Change is a youth‑led social action programme created by EFL in the Community, designed to help young people take action on the issues that matter most in their area. The project focuses in on four key topics:

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Healthy Relationships & Safety
  • Opportunities & Employability
  • Priority cohorts experiencing multiple barriers

Become a Foundation Wellbeing Champion

This summer, we’re recruiting 15–30 young people to become Wellbeing Champions — delivering one‑hour Managing Our Emotions workshops to young participants across Norfolk.

In a recent survey delivered to young people by our Youth Voice Council, mental health and wellbeing was one of the top areas identified as an area of improvement, hence the decision to base the workshops on the importance of mental health.

During the recruitment, Foundation staff and our Youth Voice Council will be looking to recruit a group of 15 -30 driven, motivated young people looking to have a positive impact on their local community.

These recruits will become ‘Wellbeing Champions’ and will have a big role in delivering our Managing Our Emotions workshops to HAF participants across the county.

Our newly selected ‘Wellbeing Champions’ will receive specialist wellbeing training from the team at Broadland District Council, as part of their Mindful Towns and Villages project.

Benefits for Young People

  • Gain recognised training in mental health awareness
  • Improve understanding of wellbeing and self-care
  • Develop key employability skills
  • Positively influence their local community
  • Grow confidence in speaking, presenting, and leading groups
  • Highlight on young person’s CV for future employment or further education
  • Progression into youth leadership roles (e.g. Youth Voice Council)

What to expect

On the day, attendees can expect to get involved with a range of different volunteer-themed activities and workshops, where aspiring volunteers can find out more about the benefits of becoming a Wellbeing Champion.

Attendees will also take part in a series of fun and engaging team-building activities, getting to know their fellow aspiring volunteers in both an outdoor and indoor setting.

Those in attendance will also meet with our current Youth Voice Council  to find out more about the community work that the council currently deliver, and to understand exactly how their involvement in the United for Change project will help to better and improve lives across Norfolk.
