Duncan's Club surprise

Bernard Patrick ‘Bunny’ Larkin (Norwich City 1960-61) has been a Duncan’s Club regular since its inauguration in September last year.

Bunny scored on his debut for Norwich (as he managed to do for every club he played for) and was part of the team that won promotion from Division 3 in 1960. When his career finished he came back to Norwich to live and work and has remained here ever since. He very much considers Norwich (and Norfolk) his home.

Sadly, Bunny has taken ill in recent weeks and hasn’t been able to attend any Duncan’s Club sessions – so our wonderful volunteers decided to bring Duncan’s Club to him!

On Monday, February 6 we surprised Bunny with a signed shirt, kindly donated by the club. It had his name with the number 60 on the back – the year he signed for Norwich from Birmingham for a fee of £10,000. To this day, Bunny still holds a record for being only one of two people to ever score a goal on their debut in the League, League Cup and FA Cup.

Ronnie, one of our Duncan’s Club volunteers made Bunny a scrapbook with images and newspaper clips from Bunny’s Norwich playing days. This absolutely made his day and provoked a joyous reaction as moments of nostalgia and recollection shone through.

It is through your donations and generosity towards our City Giving programme that enables us to achieve these surprise visits and consistently deliver high quality Duncan’s Club sessions.

Duncan’s Club

Since we opened Duncan’s Club in September, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

Every week we’ve welcomed more new faces through our doors as news about the Club has spread. So much so that, now, our Thursday morning session is at capacity.

Whilst we are delighted about the Club’s success, our growing waiting list demonstrates that the need is still there.

This year we hope to start a second Duncan’s Club on a Wednesday morning, allowing twice the number of people to access the service every week.

We are appealing for people to join our City Giving programme and give as little as £3 a month so that we can reach more people.
