Norwich City midfielder Tom Trybull and his wife Anna visited White Woman Lane Junior School in Norwich to help launch this year’s Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition with the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.
The competition challenges five to 11 year-olds across England and Wales to write on the subject of ambition, encouraging children to dream big for themselves and the world around them.
Tom spoke to the year 5 class about his determination to realise his goal of becoming a professional footballer, while Anna, who has recently published her own children’s book based on Tom’s journey, spoke of her passion for writing and encouraged the pupils to aim high and believe they can achieve anything they want to.
The couple spent time with each of the pupils, who shared their dreams and some of the poems they had been working on.
Afterwards Tom gave his impressions of Premier League Writing Stars:
“This competition will help the kids and remind them also what they should go for and that they should believe in their dreams.
“I think it’s a very good project and will help them in general for the future.”

Premier League Writing Stars is a poetry competition open to pupils from all primary schools in England and Wales. The competition is delivered as part of the Premier League Primary Stars curriculum-linked education programme.
Primary School teachers can head to www.PLPrimaryStars.com to register and download the free Premier League Writing Stars resource pack on ambition. All original poem entries must be submitted through the website or by post by the closing date of Friday 20 March 2020 to be considered. Winners will be announced in May 2020.
Norwich City Community Sports Foundation have worked in 45 schools so far this season with Premier League Primary Stars; a national primary school programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active, and develop important life skills.
In addition to the PL Writing Stars competition, Norwich City Community Sports Foundation are encouraging pupils to submit their poems to [email protected] for a chance to win a Norwich City goody bag and match tickets to a home fixture at Carrow Road. Five runners-up will each receive a goody bag.
