Hillcrest Primary School in Downham Market was the latest school to enjoy the Foundation’s shared fundraising event, Run Norwich Schools.
On 25th March pupils across the school took part in the sponsored running event, which saw the Foundation bring the full Run Norwich set-up directly to the school. Children fundraised in advance of the day, raising a staggering total of £4,521 which will be split equally between Hillcrest Primary School and the Community Sports Foundation.
More than £2,000 will go directly to the Friends of Hillcrest, who work hard to provide additional resources, experiences and improvements that enrich school life for every child. The funds will be carefully used to support projects and opportunities within Hillcrest Primary School, helping to enhance learning environments and create memorable experiences for their pupils. The remaining amount will support the Foundation’s vital work with disabled and disadvantaged people across Norfolk.
The inclusive nature of the event ensured that every child was able to take part and enjoy the day, regardless of age, ability or confidence in running.
Headteacher Mr M Try praised both the organisation and impact of the day, saying:
“The staff from the Community Sports Foundation worked really hard to make the event special for all the children regardless of their age or interest and ability at running. There was very little work for the admin and leadership teams at the school which is always a bonus and the result was that a fun time was had by all and over £2,000 raised for our PTA which will all go back to benefitting the children.”
The excitement around the event was given an extra lift with the attendance of Norwich City Women’s player Ellie Bishop and Holly Mears. The pair led a lively warm-up before helping to get the race underway, encouraging pupils as they made their way around the course.
With fantastic participation, a fun-filled atmosphere and a significant fundraising total, Run Hillcrest proved to be another memorable schools event, benefitting both the pupils involved and the wider community. A special mention must also go to Mr Try, an Ipswich Town FC supporter, for fulfilling his promise of wearing the full Norwich City FC kit if the children hit their fundraising target!
Run Norwich Schools forms part of the Foundation’s Schools Programme, which delivers PE lessons, activities and enrichment opportunities to schools across Norfolk and Suffolk. By combining physical activity with fundraising, the event not only supports schools financially but also helps the Foundation continue its vital work across the region.
