Throughout February, Norwich City Academy U18 players Glenn McCourt and Reuben Cooper have volunteered at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation’s weekly dementia programme, Duncan’s Club.
The programme, named after Norwich City legend Duncan Forbes, runs every Thursday at the Nest and provides a social setting for people living with dementia and their carers to stay active, reminisce and connect.
McCourt and Cooper have supported the sessions over the last month, engaging with participants and joining activities, while helping to create a warm and supportive atmosphere.
The volunteering initiative has helped the two players gain practical experience in a new environment, away from the football pitch, while having the chance to contribute to the local community.
“Duncan’s Club is an important programme to so many people local people,” explained Tom Bardwell-Doughty, the Foundation’s Community Programme Manager.
“Having Glenn and Reuben at our sessions, I’m sure it’s been great for their own development, and it’s been excellent seeing them connect with participants. We hope this experience has helped them realise the impact and importance of the football club within the community.
“We would like to thank Norwich City Academy for their ongoing support and collaboration over our community projects.”

Duncan’s Club, our support programme for people with dementia, is a 90-minute session every Thursday morning and afternoon at The Nest, in Horsford. It is the only weekly session of its kind for people in Norfolk with dementia.
