Lydia's Story

Lydia Eade has been a teacher for 10 years and currently teaches Year 5 at Wensum Junior School.

In recent years, Wensum Junior School has undergone a number of changes which has resulted in a lack of stability for both pupils and staff. With a new headteacher being appointed in January 2023, the school became driven to take back control of the delivery of their active sessions and as a result, Lydia was appointed the new PE subject leader.

To ensure the best for their pupils, Wensum Junior embarked on a yearlong continued professional development (CPD) programme with our Premier League Primary Stars Officer, Zac. Zac provided every teacher in the school with at least six-weeks of CPD, designed to support with the planning and delivery of high-quality PE at primary-age level.

With Lydia’s newfound responsibility came a more in depth training programme. Zac worked with Lydia to help her prepare for the role of PE lead, offering additional support to ensure relevant policies and documents were in place, the school was well equipped to deliver sessions, and there was an assessment framework created to ensure the standards of PE delivery in the school were of the highest standard.

After working with Zac, Lydia told us:

“Zac has helped me gain the confidence in adapting lesson plans if needed and has helped me develop a curriculum that will guide sessions across the school.

“I feel I am able to support staff and ensure they have the relevant training they need, and I have a much clearer vision for September 2023.”

Headteacher Corrina Peachment added:

“Zac has been a great support with our school. He has been involved in up-skilling our teachers and supporting Lydia with the leadership of PE, which helped us to achieve a very successful and enjoyable Sports Day. As a result of Zac’s guidance, Lydia has been able to make great improvements to our PE provision.”

The Premier League Primary Stars programme is available to all Primary Schools across Norfolk. For more information, click here.
