Large turnout for inaugural quiz night

Thursday night saw BBC Radio Norfolk’s Chris Goreham host the first ever ‘On the buzzer, City!’ quiz in aid of the Community Sports Foundation’s Sporting Light Appeal.

Around 200 people packed into the Top of the Terrace suite at Norwich City Football Club as 25 teams battled for the star prize of tickets to watch Norwich City take on Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League.

The event was sponsored by Barnham Broom Hotel, Golf & Spa who entered a side to pit their wits against teams that included ex-Norwich City players and ambassadors, club staff, CSF partner organisations and Norwich City fans.

Also lending their support to the event was Canary Catering who provided the selection of nibbles for the evening.

The overall champions were ‘The Clique’ who received their medals on stage after finishing narrowly ahead of runners-up Knowledge City.

The team of Craig Fleming, Iwan Roberts, Paul McVeigh, Dean Ashton and Darren Eadie put in a solid performance in the face of a challenging quiz.

During the course of the evening, host Chris Goreham chatted with Iwan Roberts, Paul McVeigh and Norwich City Chief Executive David McNally about the quiz, fundraising for CSF and Norwich City’s life in the Premier League.

Iwan and David will run in the Virgin London Marathon as part of ‘Team Norwich City’ with a competition for a Norwich City fan to win a place in the team to be launched in the match day programme for the Swansea game and on the CSF web site.

The auction of a signed Norwich City shirt, kindly donated by John Spratling of ipatter.com, and a signed Wayne Rooney shirt raised £210 and £200 respectively and the unique balloon raffle provided much entertainment.

Emma Fletcher from the CSF Fundraising Team said:

“It was a fantastic turnout tonight and for this support we are truly grateful. Chris was a terrific Quizmaster and we are so lucky to have got him involved. We have raised about £2,000 for the Sporting Light Appeal and had a lot of fun along the way; keep your eye out for the next one!

Host Chris Goreham closed proceedings by inviting participants to get involved with fundraising for the Sporting Light Appeal by visiting www.sportinglight.org.ukor calling the CSF Office on 01603 761122.
