Last weekend a determined team of fundraisers, supporters and volunteers from the Community Sports Foundation successfully completed the iconic National Three Peaks Challenge and raised an incredible £11,000 in the process.
The challenge began in the early hours of Thursday 2nd July, as participants gathered at The Nest before embarking on the long journey north to Fort William and the foot of the first peak, Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain.
Arriving in Scotland late on Thursday evening, the team enjoyed a relaxed evening, even finding time to catch some FIFA World Cup action before tuning in for an early night.
Rising at the crack of dawn on Friday morning, participants were greeted by a welcome sight, clear skies and a favourable weather forecast for the day ahead. While the support team took the opportunity to recharge ahead of the miles of driving still to come, walkers began their first ascent.
As they hiked higher, the landscape transformed around them. Blue skies gave way to mist, temperatures dropped and snow became visible nearer the summit. Despite the changing conditions every participant successfully reached the top before making their way safely back down to the waiting minibuses.

Attention quickly turned to the next destination, Scafell Pick in the Lake District. The long journey south offered participants a precious chance to rest tired legs and recharge where possible, while the support crew enjoyed some of the stunning scenery along the route. However, upon arriving in Cumbria late evening, the team was greeted by typical Lakeland rain.
Rain that persisted as the second ascent got underway. This hike proved, for many, to be one of the toughest moments of the entire challenge. Hiking in the dark, with slippery terrain and persistent wind and rain tested even our most experienced participants, but it didn’t deter them and just before midnight our teams reached the summit.
In the early hours of Saturday morning the teams arrived back at the minibuses where conversation quickly gave way to much-needed sleep as the support team got back behind the wheel for the final journey south to Wales and to Snowdon, the last peak of the challenge.
Arriving at around 9am on Saturday morning, participants dug deep to find their remaining reserves of energy. Thankfully, the weather once again smiled on our fundraisers providing a welcomed boost. This final ascent produced unforgettable memories as walkers encouraged one another towards the finish line. One particularly ambitious participant decided that after climbing three mountains, the fastest route to completion was running and ran from the summit to the finish line in a mind boggling 55 minutes!
At the finish, participants were welcomed with medals, hugs, cheers, refreshments and much deserved praise as they celebrated completing one of the UK’s most demanding endurance challenges.

The Foundation would like to extend a special thank you to all the supporters who made this challenge possible. To Norfolk Hire and Jett Distribtion who continue to be valued partners of the Foundation, supporting all our challenge events that play a vital role in generating funds for the Foundation’s life-changing work.
Thanks also go to Up and Running Treatments whose expertise kept participants moving throughout the challenge, providing treatment for blisters, supporting tired muscles and helping the team overcome the physical demands of the weekend.
Finally, enormous thanks must go to our incredible MyClub volunteers. From guiding groups on the mountains, ensuring their safe passage to welcoming teams back at each finish line, from offering encouragement every step of the way to driving minibuses between Scotland, England and Wales, they continue to be the beating heart of all our fundraising events.
To everyone who took part, donated, volunteered or support from afar, thank you. Your efforts help us to continue changing lives across Norfolk through the power of sport.
