Teenager gets a tour of Carrow Road...with a difference

The Community Sports Foundation joined forces with Rays of Sunshine and Norwich City staff and players to give teenager James Frost a day he’ll never forget at Carrow Road.

Avid Canaries fan James Frost, who has a rare condition known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, had always dreamed of a tour of his favourite club’s stadium.

His condition means he is a full-time, powerchair user, and is dependent on the help of others for his personal care.

Wish-granting charity Rays of Sunshine, together with the Community Sports Foundation, invited fifteen-year-old James and his family for a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium.

But unbeknown to his family, plans had already been set in motion to give James a special once-in-a-lifetime surprise.

Without warning the Norwich City first team players and staff emerged from the tunnel to surprise James and his family on the pitch.

Beckoned by the players, James then joined in with the City team for an impromptu team photograph.

The biggest surprise of the day was then revealed, as Neil Adams presented James with two season tickets, as provided by Rays of Sunshine.

Club captain Russell Martin said: “We were told about the plans in the dressing room and all the lads couldn’t wait to make James feel part of it. The boys really enjoyed it. It’s a real family football club and to surprise him like that was great.”

Visibly emotional dad Ian described the moment the players first came out of the tunnel: “He usually struggles holding his head up straight, but it went up and he just stared when he first saw the players. It was fantastic.”

James was welcomed to Carrow Road for the Charlton fixture on Tuesday night as the “Community Hero” and got the honour of bringing out the match ball before kick-off.
