Girls from Sprowston High School are a step closer to the dream of playing on the famous Wembley turf.
The girls were victorious at a tournament held to determine which high school would be Norwich City’s representatives in the Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup.
Seventeen schools from across Norfolk originally signed up for the six-a-side format competition, with the eight ‘champions’ all meeting last Friday.
Sprowston High’s team were the ultimate victors, edging a highly competitive final one-nil against a strong Taverham High team.
The Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup, which is free to enter, sees thousands of schools from across the country given the opportunity to represent their local Football League club.
The ultimate prize is the chance to take part in the final, which will be played on Wembley’s famous pitch prior to the St Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final in March.
Sprowston can now look forward to the next stage of the tournament, to be held in January. Hosted by Stevenage FC, the girls will take on teams representing the likes of Ipswich Town, Colchester United and Peterborough United.
Joe Harvey, CSF Schools Development Officer, said: “The standard of play was fantastic. It’s great to see so many schools engaging in the competition.”
“We look forward to supporting Sprowston High in the next stage.”
It’s not too late to enter into the Kinder+Sport Football League Kids Cup, the equivalent tournament for mixed U11 teams.
