Walkers conquer the North Norfolk coastal path to raise £13,000 (and counting!) in a Race Against The Sun

On Saturday 21st June, over 60 brave walkers gathered on the cliffs at Cromer as dawn broke, ready to take on Race Against at the Sun – the second year of the Foundation’s gruelling 47-mile challenge walking from Cromer to Hunstanton along the stunning North Norfolk coastal path.

At exactly 4:31am, as the sun appeared on the horizon, the walkers set off, united in their goal: to reach Hunstanton, beat the sunset, all whilst raising vital funds for the Community Sports Foundation.

What followed was a day of unforgettable effort and camaraderie. Making the most of the cooler temperatures, teams progressed at an impressive rate, knowing they’d be facing the majority of the challenge in what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Help, however, was never far away. Participants were fully supported every step of the way by an incredible team of staff and volunteers – some walking alongside them, others stationed at key rest points along the route.

From motivational words to vital practical support, this dedicated team played a crucial role in helping walkers push through the soaring temperatures. Whether it was handing out water, offering snacks, providing first aid, or simply sharing a smile, they kept spirits high when it mattered most.

Blister care, water runs, and the rapid assembly of shade shelters – whatever was needed, the team delivered. Their unwavering support helped ensure that every participant had the best possible chance of completing this unforgettable coastal challenge.

As the cliffs of Hunstanton finally came into view weary legs found new strength, and the determination that had carried our participants all day, kicked into overdrive. Every single walker completed the epic 47-mile journey before the sun set and were cheered across the finish line by their waiting support teams.

With medals proudly placed around necks and smiles all round, it was time to celebrate with a well-earned serving of delicious loaded fries, enjoyed against the stunning backdrop of the setting sun. A perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of all involved, the event raised an astonishing £13,000, with funds still coming in. These vital funds will go directly towards supporting disabled and disadvantaged individuals across Norfolk through the Foundation’s programmes.

Thanks to key supporters on the day:

Norfolk Hire – for supporting all the Foundation’s challenge series and providing support vehicles
Green Farm Coffee – for keeping everyone caffeinated throughout the long day
Wells Town Football Club – for use of their external space for our walkers to take a much needed rest half way into the challenge
Swash Nosh – for fuelling participants as they hit the half way mark
Duration – for provided each participant with a well earnt beer on crossing the finish line
Chef Norgate – for replenishing participants as they reached the finish
Up and Running Treatments – for massaging the aching muscles and keeping our walkers going

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made Race Against the Sun such a success – from the tireless walkers to the phenomenal volunteers from our MyClub programme, who kept feet tended, bottles filled, and morale sky-high throughout the day.

Together, we proved that when we walk with purpose, we go far – and we make a difference.
