Eleven members of the Norwich City FC Down’s Syndrome squad, along with parents and carers plus CSF staff, made the long journey north to Tyneside last weekend for their autumn tour, thanks to funding from CSF’s Sporting Light Appeal.
Highlights of the trip included a ground tour of St James’ Park (with a chance meeting with Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren!) and a visit to the iconic Angel of the North.
The trip’s fixture, which took place in Newcastle United’s first-team training dome against the Newcastle United Foundation’s DS Active team, finished four goals apiece.
Following their fixture, the team got the chance to watch the Canaries first-team in action against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The team were also given the good news that the Pink Un’ Pickers, a Canaries supporter group, had generously donated twenty-two full Norwich City FC away kits to the team, which will be worn on future trips.
Emma Fletcher, CSF Fundraising Officer, said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to travel with the squad and see first hand how the money raised from our fundraisers, such as the PUPs group, is being spent.
She continued: “The smiles on their faces just naturally shone out on the trip and you could really tell they were loving every minute of the experience. We really can’t thank Newcastle United Foundation enough for giving us the opportunity to play at the first-team training dome and for their warm hospitality over the course of the trip.”
