Thousands raised at Royal Norwich for the charity

A glorious day of golf at Royal Norwich led by Norwich City FC legends Dean Ashton and Bryan Gunn helped to raise an amazing £12,450 for the Foundation.

The impressive total will support the charity’s work, including our programmes to drive inclusion for people with disabilities. During the welcome speeches, the players were shown a video of Rory and his mum Angela, who have benefitted from attending our disability mini kickers sessions.

The day was our first golf event in the impeccable surroundings of Royal Norwich, which opened in 2019, and nearly 100 assembled golfers were rewarded with picture perfect conditions – blue skies, sunshine and no wind.

A new format saw each of the 24 fourballs split into pairs to represent either ‘Team Ashton’ or ‘Team Gunn’. The pair with the highest better ball stableford score in each group scored one point for their team.

After 5 hours of play and with the scores tallied, an unlikely 12-12 tie meant a putting shoot-out between the two team captains was required. Cheered on by both sets of teams in front of ‘The Stables’ restaurant and bar, it was Dean Ashton who emerged victorious, as his ball finished nearer the target hole.

Prizes were also awarded to the three pairs with the best scores overall:

1st – Peter Reeve/Adam Jones 48 pts
2nd – Marc Etherington/Glenn Hooper 47 pts
3rd – Phil Grice/Preston Jones 46 pts (count back used)

Other prizes:

Beat the Pro: Mark Davis
Nearest-the-pin: Preston Jones
Nearest-the-pin in two: Adam Jones
Longest Drive: Peter Murphy
Putting Challenges: David Lefevre

The half-way house was kindly stocked by Woodforde’s, who also supplied a prize for each member of the winning team.

The final fundraising total was boosted by a post-round raffle and silent auction.

Emma Fletcher-Dungay, Senior Fundraising & Events Manager, said:

“We’re really grateful to Bryan, Dean and all our golfers and event partners who helped contribute to the end total – it’s the most we’ve ever raised in over eight years of running the golf day.

“It’ll make such a big difference to so many people that benefit from our services.”

The Foundation is grateful to the support Orange Fox Electrical and Production Bureau for backing the event as main sponsors, as well as our beverage partner, Woodforde’s.

We’d also like to thank all our hole and prize sponsors Evolve Electrical, Credo Asset Finance, BBA Digital Media, Morston Hall, 4SportsGroup, Signs Express, Hugh J Boswell, Puma Cobra, Ben Burgess, Chaplin Farrant, Norwich Framing & Mirror Centre, Royal Norwich, Rooftop Gardens, A Star Experience and Porsche Centre Norwich.
