Norwich City Community Sports Foundation is celebrating an exceptional set of degree results across its higher education pathway, delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales and EFL in the Community.
The Foundation’s degree programmes offer learners a unique blend of lectures, practical sessions, work‑based learning and industry‑aligned qualifications – all shaped around real experience within community sport. Students study at The Nest, progressing through the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Development before moving into a top‑up year to complete a full BSc (Hons) degree. This year’s results show just how strongly learners have embraced the opportunity.
Our graduating Year 3 students completed either the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Development or the BSc (Hons) Community Football Coaching and Administration. Across the full cohort of 21 learners, 11 students achieved First Class Honours (52%) and 10 achieved Upper Second Class Honours (48%), meaning every student attained either a First or a 2:1. With the most recent HESA figures showing a UK average of around 30% achieving a first‑class degree, this highlights the exceptional achievement of our learners.
Several graduates have already secured coaching roles within the Foundation, continuing their development by supporting programmes across the community and putting their learning into practice.
The cohort was also presented with a Special Contribution Award during their final USW residential, recognising their dedication, impact and academic excellence.
Rob Turner, Higher Education Manager at the Foundation, praised the group’s commitment and togetherness, saying: “As a group, they have performed exceptionally well over the past three years. The hard work and support they’ve shown one another has been brilliant, and you can see that in the way they’ve stayed together as a cohort since the very start. The academic results they’ve achieved across their BSc courses have been outstanding.
“Throughout their studies, the group has completed a wide range of placements across the Foundation and made a real impact in supporting participants across the community. It’s exciting to see what each individual will go on to accomplish next.”
Students reflected proudly on their journey, sharing how much the course has shaped their confidence, experience and future ambitions. One learner said: “I had the best three years studying and have gained so much experience and confidence that will stay with me for life. I met a lot of amazing people and had so many great opportunities.” Another student added: “I really enjoyed my three years on the course, and now I feel confident to continue a career in sports and teaching.”
With outstanding results across all three year groups, the Foundation’s higher education pathway continues to equip learners with the skills, experience and confidence to thrive in coaching, teaching, sport and beyond.
