Golfers enjoy charity event at Royal Norwich Golf Club

Over eighty golfers joined Dean Ashton for the second annual Community Sports Foundation (CSF)’s Charity Golf Day on Tuesday 14th October.

The fundraiser at the Royal Norwich Golf Club raised over £4,500 for the CSF’s Sporting Light Appeal.

Twenty teams took part in an 18-hole Texas-Scramble format competition at the Norwich course and among those teeing off was Canary legend Bryan Gunn.

“I was really pleased with how many teams we got,” former England & Norwich City striker and CSF ambassador Dean Ashton said. “It was great to see Gunny come down too.”

The long four-hour drive for the former City shotstopper must have been something of a distraction though: “He didn’t have so much luck with his first tee-shot. He managed to find it eventually in the carpark!”

Alongside the main competition, there were a variety of other challenges to test the golfers, including a putting challenge with a ‘Win a Car for the Weekend’ prize courtesy of Holden Group, a Beat the Pro game and a Nearest the Pin challenge.

Following the golf and a premium buffet, the end-of-day auction included kindly donated prizes such as a round of golf for 20 people at Royal Norwich Golf Club, half a day’s motivational training from Mindspan Global UK and signed Liverpool, Norwich City & Tottenham Hotspur memorabilia.

“It was a really great day,” reflected Dean. “I’ve seen firsthand the happiness that disadvantaged and disabled children get out of the funds CSF raise, so to contribute whilst enjoying a day out on the course has been fantastic.”

First place and winners of a Norwich City matchday box, went to Fist of Furyk who edged out ABC&Packaging’s quartet. The Red Herrings took third spot, with GDUK Ltd finishing fourth.

Thankyou to the Royal Norwich Golf Club, Holden Group plus all the hole sponsors (Fisher Health Care Training, Prior Diesel, LEC Marine, Simpsons Skoda & My Golf ID) for supporting Dean Ashton Golf Day 2014.
