Cerebral Palsy team ready for national final live on TV

Norwich City’s cerebral palsy football team enjoyed a memorable cup win last month at St George’s Park – and they’ll be hoping for another special moment later this month, this time live on TV.

The team will compete in the EE Disability FA Cup Final (Cerebral Palsy) on Sunday 28 June, with a 10.15am kick‑off at St George’s Park, broadcast live on TNT Sports.

Norwich reached the final in 2023 and lifted the trophy in 2024 after a 6–3 win over Chelsea. This year’s final brings the same two sides together again. Chelsea finished top of the CP National League, while Norwich qualified by winning the National CP Cup.

That National CP Cup victory was a landmark moment for the team. Norwich topped their group, edged past West Brom on penalties in the semi‑final, and then beat CP United 2–0 in the final at St George’s Park – securing the title for the first time in the team’s history and booking their place in the EE Disability FA Cup Final.

“Everyone was buzzing,” explained Owen Woodrow, captain and defender of the team.

“We’ve never won the National CP Cup before, so emotions were high. It’s another trophy for the cabinet and another chance to show people at the EE Disability FA Cup Final what we’re about.

“Preparation has been going well. Training has been sharp and we’re excited for it. The players have been coming in an hour or two early to put in extra work. We’ve focused on fitness and the key parts of our game.

“Chelsea are a strong side and have improved since we beat them in 2024, but we believe in each other. If we stay focused and play our game, we give ourselves a real chance.

“Playing in this team means everything for me. I’ve been part of the pan‑disability programme and the CP team for 16 years, it feels like family. I’ve made lifelong friends and still keep in touch with so many people. It will be an honour to wear the Norwich City badge on TV at St George’s Park.”

Rupert Appleton, Head of Inclusion at the Community Sports Foundation, heaped praise on the Cerebral Palsy team as he reflected on their journey to the final.

“Our Cerebral Palsy team represents everything Realising Potential stands for. The programme is about creating opportunities, building confidence and helping people thrive through sport – and this group embodies that every time they step onto the pitch.

“Their togetherness, their commitment and the pride they take in wearing the Norwich City badge inspires so many of our younger participants. They’re a huge part of the Foundation’s disability and SEND pathway, and we couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved. Everyone at the Foundation sends them our best wishes and we can’t wait to watch them in the final.”
