Canaries win national title

Norwich City CSF’s walking football team will represent England in June, after victory at the Over 60s Walking Football National Challenge in Leicester.

A 2-0 win over Grimsby Corinthians in the final capped a remarkable day for the team as they came through a group stage and three knockout rounds without conceding a single goal.

Three wins from three matches saw the Canaries finish top of a Group D that included the incumbent national champions Watford. A business-like 1-0 win for City set the tone for the remainder, and only a nervy penalty shootout against Hallamshire in the semi-final threatened briefly to derail their charge to victory.

The team have earned the right to represent England and will travel to Leyton Orient on June 1 to do battle in the Walking Football World Cup, hosted by the International Walking Football Federation.

The success left some members of the squad needing to hastily rearrange their plans…
