City shotstopper visits CSF session for vulnerable adults
Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy visited the Community Sports Foundation’s Street Life Soccer programme last Monday.
He spent the afternoon meeting the participants, watching their training session and viewing some of the educational packs that the participants were working on.
The programme, which is funded by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, supports homeless and vulnerable adults through sport.
The participants were taking part in a weekly session at the Carrow Park facility, which combines structured football training with opportunities to gain new educational qualifications and skills.
“The boys were delighted to have the chance to meet Ruddy,” said Ian Hill, CSF Education Development Officer, who heads up the programme.
“Ruddy was very impressed with the lads’ attitude and their commitment to the session. His advice to them was to never give up and you could see that his words really inspired them.”
“Spending time with someone like Ruddy can do wonders for the lads’ self-esteem and confidence, and with the continued support we provide from our programme – we can continue to make a real difference to their lives.”
Billy, a participant from the Great Yarmouth programme said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the day – a massive thank you for bringing Ruddy down to meet us and for everything the Street Life programme continues to do for us.”
The programme has helped over 700 individuals across Norfolk since it was launched in 2007. Alongside working with homeless or vulnerably housed individuals, it also seeks to support ex-offenders, refugees and those with learning difficulties.
