It was a case of “lights out and away we go” on Sunday, as teams raced around Beccles Ellough Speedway in support of the Community Sports Foundation’s Build The Nest campaign.
The go-kart race, back for its third year, and kindly supported by Foundation partners Soak Digital, welcomed seventeen teams for an endurance show down.
Following a briefing and the chance to warm up the tyres (and driving skills) with a few practice laps, the starting grid was set. Among those revving their engines were teams from Ashton’s Legal, Norfolk Hire and Credo Asset Finance, as well as a Norwich City Football Club team led by Canaries’ Sporting Director Stuart Webber.
Each team had 2-hours to complete as many laps as possible. As ever, teamwork was the name of the game, with a minimum of five pitstops required by each team.
With an impressive 131 laps completed, “Magna Karta” got the chequered flag, followed by “Redbull Honda” and last year’s winners, “Team Globex” (both 128 laps).
Joe Harvey, Community Fundraising Manager, said:
“What a day! In total, we’ve raised £2,500 from the event, which is fantastic – and we had a lot of fun doing it.
“We’d like to thank our sponsors Soak Digital for making it possible, and to all the teams who joined us.”
The £2,500 will be match-funded by Norwich City FC as part of the campaign to raise the final £1 million needed to complete construction of phase two of The Nest.
Located on the outskirts of Norwich, The Nest is the Foundation’s brand new state-of-the-art facility, featuring residential bunk boxes, high-quality grass football pitches and a main building with superb catering amenities.
