By the order of the Peaky Climbers

From the 19th to the 21st of June, business leaders from an array of Norwich’s local companies banded together to tackle an improbable challenge – climbing the National Three Peaks in 24 hours.

First, they would head up to Scotland on Monday 19 to spend the night before summiting Ben Nevis the following morning.

Upon conquering the UK’s greatest summit, there was little time to rest. Before they knew it, the team were back onto the bus and England-bound, where they met the prospect of a Scaffell Pike night climb – though the nearing summer solstice made for some rather forgiving lighting.

The climbers were up and down the ‘smallest’ of the three mountains in a flash and knew just a four hour drive separated them from the final ascent of the challenge – Snowdon.

Yet again, the mountain was no match for the Peaky Climbers, with the lead group summiting the final peak in under 24 hours – a quite incredible achievement!

Altogether, the group raised an astonishing £43,136.08 – a sum that is still rising as they continue to process donations.

These challenges would not be possible without the vital support from sponsors; Coastal Construction and Norfolk Hire.

Thanks

Senior Fundraising and Events Manager Emma Fletcher-Dungay said:

“We are so grateful to the ‘Peaky Climbers’ for choosing to support the Foundation in such a challenging way. Completing a challenge of this magnitude takes a massive amount of commitment in terms of training and preparation before the day itself, and they were all very determined to complete it and in a fast time.

“The unbelievable amount of money that has been raised is massive and will go towards supporting several individuals and groups within the disability and disadvantaged programmes.

“We really cannot not thank them enough for everything they have done for us.”

Ed King of local business Dencora said:

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for looking after us all so well and making the trip an overwhelmingly positive experience which we’ll be able to look back on with great satisfaction.

“I was aware of the Foundation before you kindly hosted some of us at The Nest a few months back but didn’t fully appreciate exactly what it offers to so many people in Norfolk. To be able to see The Nest in full swing really gave the challenge context for me as it’s not often you get to witness a charity in action when fundraising.

“Throughout the challenge itself you all made life extremely easy for us with food and drink always available when we needed it, not to mention the excellent driving – we didn’t really need to think about much more than the peaks themselves.

“I can’t imagine any of you got much more sleep than we did but we were never aware of that and your positive energy throughout really helped motivate us to keep going.

“Thank you also for putting up with our smelly feet and nonstop banter! Matt and Simon didn’t get much peace and quiet from us on the peaks but they were a reassuring presence throughout.

“I look forward to when our paths next cross again but in the meantime, many thanks to you all.”
