Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, in partnership with Norse Group, is launching this year’s Active Canaries programme - an initiative dedicated to helping young people understand the importance of healthy lifestyles and the impact good choices can have on their physical development and overall wellbeing.
Active Canaries combines education with fun, engaging physical activity and will be delivered across Norfolk through three core strands: school-based programmes, menu takeover days, and a live virtual assembly.
Schools across Norfolk and Suffolk are invited to join a free virtual assembly on Thursday 19 March, featuring exclusive inspirational messages from Norwich City’s men’s and women’s first-team players. They will share how their choices around activity, nutrition and rest support their performance on the pitch. Over 10,000 pupils are already signed up across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Schools can sign up now to take part.
Alongside the virtual assembly, we are providing additional resources for schools, including fun nutritional facts and the 50/50 Class Challenge, where pupils work together to try 50 different foods and complete 50 physical activities.
Norwich City’s Executive Head Chef Dan Savage and Lead Performance Nutritionist Jack Richardson have worked in collaboration with Norse Group’s menu development team to develop player-inspired school meals, helping children build a positive connection between the food they eat and how it supports their energy, wellbeing, and performance.
This year’s themed menu will feature dishes such as:
Families can also download the recipes on the Community Sport Foundation’s website to recreate the meals at home.
Throughout the year, the Foundation delivers six-week funded Active Canary programmes to selected schools, focusing on:
These sessions aim to equip pupils with practical knowledge and habits they can carry into everyday life and are tailored to the school’s needs.
