Pupils to represent Norfolk in England Handball competition
Eleven girls from Northgate High School will represent their county at the England Handball National School Finals in Worcester later this month.
The team excelled at two handball tournaments held earlier this year, securing a place in the final following their victory at the southern regional qualifying round in May.
The Community Sports Foundation (CSF) and England Handball Association launched a partnership in January 2017, with the idea of increasing engagement in the sport throughout Norfolk.
The Foundation currently deliver handball sessions to high schools across the county to improve interest in the sport and help increase local participation rates.
CSF Sports Development Officer Toby Nickerson commented:
“This is the first time that Norfolk have had representation within the tournament so to get a team to the finals day is a fantastic achievement in itself. The girls had a great attitude and did their county and school proud.
“Each stage of the tournament has provided a fantastic opportunity for young people from our Community Hub schools to take part in their first ever high level handball competition.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to the England Handball Association for the support in giving these young people the opportunity to compete in the tournament.”
The pupils will compete in the U13 Girls’ category against five other national teams on Sunday 11th June.
