This summer, over 700 young people took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme across Norfolk.
Participants enjoyed a residential trip alongside a two-week social action project which aimed to raise awareness and funds for local charities.
An impressive summer of activities, campaigns and fundraising saw the teenagers raise over £10,000 for local charities, such as Nelson’s Journey, CSF and many more.
The teenagers completed over 60 voluntary hours each, organising and taking part in a variety of events including fetes, quizzes and swimathons.
One group enjoyed a visit from Norman Lamb, the MP for North Norfolk, in the final week of their programme.
Norman gave his support to their fundraising work and heard first-hand how the programme is helping to develop participants’ life skills, wellbeing, and boost community engagement across the county.
The teenagers celebrated their achievements with the programme at a number of graduation events throughout August which provided the opportunity for graduates to reunite with their NCS leaders and friends.
NCS Manager Paul Sykes reflected:
“It’s been brilliant to celebrate the many achievements of our young people for what was an exciting and eventful summer. The participants have really excelled and have supported the local community with their social action projects.”
NCS aims to boost confidence, communication skills and give young people vital skills for their CV as they leave school and look to enter further education or work.
