It was a week of adventure activities, fun workshops and new friendships for participants on CSF’s Fit4it Junior Camp.
Over a hundred children joined Community Sports Foundation over February half-term for the free camp.
Run in conjunction with Public Health, the Junior camp is aimed at seven to twelve year olds who may be struggling to control or maintain their weight.
Following ‘get-to-know-you’ exercises, the campers spent the first three days taking part in health workshops and sporting activity.
Workshops included a motivational workshop from CSF Trustee Gavin Drake, from Inspire International.
The participants took part in a variety of sports including tag-rugby, boxing, handball and basketball.
The highlight of the week was a two-day stay at the scenic thirty-acre Kingswood West Runton activity centre, which overlooks the North Norfolk coast.
Campers enjoyed a host of adventure activities including zip wires, abseiling and aeroball.
“The campers who left us at the end of the week were full of confidence. It was great to see so many new friendships forged,” said Tessa Beecroft, CSF Health Development Officer.
“We hope they’ve learned lots of useful information about the importance of being active and leading a healthy lifestyle. We’re looking forward to catching up with them and seeing how they’ve continued their good work from camp.”
The participants will meet again for a series of follow-up sessions, before their Celebration Evening event at Carrow Road in May to mark their successes on the course.
Here is some feedback we received from parents of participants:
“Katie had a fabulous time, she’s still talking about now. She made lots of new friends and is looking forward to seeing them again soon. She didn’t want it to end!” Kim Newman
“My son Ben has had such a brilliant time this week, not what he expected. He’s thoroughly enjoyed himself, learnt so much and made new friends. Just got home from Kingswood and he is now fast asleep, totally worn out!” Joanna Seaman
