Further Education Students Enjoy Life‑Changing USA Experience

Thirtytwo students from the Foundation’s Football & Education programmes travelled to Chicago and Milwaukee in July for a 14day learning and cultural experience designed to broaden horizons, raise aspirations, and open doors to future careers in sport and beyond.

The trip was delivered through the support of the Turing Scheme and a brilliant group of partners, including Chicago Fire, Chicago Fire Foundation, Milwaukee Brewers, Marquette University, University of Illinois Chicago, Intentional Sports, EFL in the Community, Wensum Trust, and Norwich City FC.

Highlights of the trip 🇺🇸

Check out the highlights from our USA trip, capturing the best moments from 14 days of football, education, cultural visits and community impact.

Milwaukee Brewers: BehindtheScenes Access

Students spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers, gaining a rare look behind the scenes at an MLB organisation which is part of Norwich City FC’s ownership group. The visit included:

The sessions offered students a clear picture of the pathways available in professional sport and the journeys taken by those working at the highest level.

The group also caught a Minor League Baseball fixture, with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers taking on the Quad Cities River Bandits – a great addition to their fantastic sporting experience in the US.

Chicago Fire: Football and Professional Development

In Chicago, students took part in a packed programme with MLS outfit Chicago Fire FC and the Chicago Fire Foundation, including:

The students also met Gregg Berhalter, former United States men’s national team manager and defender, and now Chicago Fire’s Head Coach and Director of Football.

The experience gave students direct exposure to elite environments and the variety of careers within football.

Cultural Experiences & Community Impact

Alongside their education and football activities, students explored landmarks including Soldier Field and Lincoln Park Zoo, as well as volunteering at Hunger Task Force Farm in Milwaukee. They were in the States during the 2026 World Cup, too, giving them the unforgettable chance to experience the tournament’s atmosphere firsthand.

The group also visited Marquette University and University of Illinois Chicago, gaining insight into life on an American campus and learning about the academic pathways, facilities, and support available to student‑athletes in the US.

Students spent time at Intentional Sports, a major sports charity supporting young people from disadvantaged communities in Chicago. They toured the facility, learned about its programmes, and saw firsthand how sport can be used to create positive change.

Raising Aspirations Through RealWorld Learning

The USA trip formed a key part of the Foundation’s commitment to providing highquality education enriched by realworld experiences. Students returned with new qualifications, broader career knowledge, and a deeper understanding of global sport environments – along with memories that will stay with them for years to come.

The Foundation is grateful to the Turing Scheme, Wensum Trust, EFL, and all partners across Chicago and Milwaukee for their support, time, and generosity. Their involvement ensured students received opportunities that will shape future pathways and leave a lasting impact on their personal and professional development.
