Local high school students enjoy day of sport with CSF
Seventy students from five different CSF partner schools took part in the first Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) Festival last Friday.
Northgate High School, Stalham High, Open Academy, Great Yarmouth High and Ormiston Venture Academy joined CSF at the UEA Sportspark for a day of sporting fun.
Following on from last year’s Hub Cup, the Festival was intended to celebrate the the PL4S programme, a Premier League initiative which promotes youth participation in new and different sports.
The students took part a number of different sports including handball, badminton, boxing, basketball and table tennis.
A basketball freestyler and ‘Roger’, an all-action table-tennis robot, wowed the pupils with their tricks while special guest CSF ambassador and ex-England international Dean Ashton joined in with the festivities.
Pupils and teachers also got the opportunity to pose with Norwich City’s Playoff trophy.
Scott Emmerson, Sports Coordinator at Northgate High School, said:
“The students loved the festival. They were able to try new sports in a relaxed, non-competitive environment, which really allowed them to express themselves.”
Event organiser and CSF Sports Development Officer Toby Nickerson said:
“It was great to be able to invite all the Hub schools and students down to the Festival. We wanted to celebrate the programme’s successes with a fun, active and engaging day of sport and I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.
“A big thank you to Dean and Anton, our basketball freestyler, for supporting the event.”
Funded by the Premier League & Sport England, PL4S was set up in 2009 to follow the London Olympic legacy and has helped tens of thousands of young people across the county get involved in new or different sports in their local community.
