City legends assemble for charity football match

Former Canary favourites returned to Norwich City FC last Thursday for the Community Sports Foundation’s (CSF) inaugural charity ‘Canary Legend Eleven’ match.

The game saw fans and players take to the pitch to raise money for disadvantaged and disabled people across the county.

Former club captain Adam Drury joined Dean Ashton, Grant Holt, Adrian Forbes, Matt Gill, Darren Kenton and Ryan Jarvis on the day. He reflected:

“Getting back with my old team mates for the legends match was really special. City had a strong link with the community back when I was playing and it’s great to see that feeling is still apparent.”

A selection of representatives from the Foundation’s Street Life Soccer (SLS) programme and Disability Elite Player Development Centre (EPDC) also took part in the 90-minute fixture.

The match was closely fought with Holt XI narrowly winning 6-5. Drury XI looked to have rescued the game by taking it into extra time but Grant Holt’s injury time strike secured the win for his side.

Drury continued:

“The money raised from the game is going to make a real difference to lives in the local community, including some of the Foundation’s participants who played with us today. It was great to have them out on the pitch with us.”

In addition to the matchday experience complete with scoreboard and entrance music, players also had access to the Players Lounge, tunnel and were treated to a post-match meal in Delia Smith’s restaurant, Yellows.

"The money raised from the game is going to make a real difference to lives in the local community, including some of the Foundation’s participants who played with us today. It was great to have them out on the pitch with us."
