On Saturday 28 June, The Nest played host to the Foundation’s second Armed Forces Day event – a heartfelt celebration of the Armed Forces community here in Norfolk. Veterans, serving personnel, reservists, cadets and their families gathered for a day of connection, gratitude, and pride.
The highlight of the day was the impressive military parade, led by City of Norwich Pipe Band on the Norfolk Hire Arena. Spectators lined up alongside the 3G pitch to watch the parade, which was overseen by a distinguished line-up of guests including General The Lord Dannatt, Lieutenant General (Retd) Jonathan Page CBE, OBE and Group Captain Matt Peak, the Community Sports Foundation Armed Forces Ambassador.
In his welcome address, Lord Dannatt warmly greeted attendees and expressed deep gratitude for the service and continued dedication of the Armed Forces community, recognising both current and former personnel and their families.
A variety of military charities joined the days celebrations, showcasing the support and services they offer across the region. Families enjoyed hands-on activities including metal detecting, a flight simulator experience, and the chance to explore historic military equipment up close – something for everyone.
The day drew to a fitting close with a walking football tournament kindly sponsored by Forces2Canaries. Bringing a sense of friendly competition and fun to round off the celebrations, Alice Macdonald MP presented medals and a trophy to the winning team.
“Over the past couple of years, the Foundation has made a real effort to strengthen its connection with the Armed Forces community and this year’s event was a brilliant reflection of that progress.” said Neil Hall, the Foundation’s Armed Forces Champion. “It was fantastic to see veterans, serving personnel, reservists, cadets and their families come together, enjoy the day, and engage with everything The Nest and the Foundation have to offer. The positive feedback we’ve received shows just how valuable these events are – and it’s a community we’re really proud to support.”
The event was a resounding success, reflecting the Foundation’s ongoing respect, appreciation and support for its Armed Forces community.
