On the 19th of August 2022 the Premier League visited The Nest as part of their PL30 tour around the country.
Alongside awarding Jackie Thornton with Community Captain, displaying the Premier League trophy, and engaging hundreds of children through their love of football – we were also given the opportunity to highlight an important addition to The Nest’s facilities.
The Premier League announced in June 2021, that that it would fund the provision of 2,000 Automated External Defibrillators at grassroots football clubs and facilities, in the hope of saving the lives of people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.
Thanks to the Premier League’s investment, and free installation from our partners, Orange Fox Electrical, The Nest is now fully equipped with an emergency defibrillator.
According to the Premier League:
“At least 12 young people, between the ages of 12-35 years, die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions in the United Kingdom every week.”
Furthermore, “over 30,000 people of all ages suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year and less than one in 10 survive.”
Having a defibrillator at The Nest among other grassroots footballing facilities across the country is imperative towards reducing the number of cardiac-related fatalities in football and assuring all players that they are safe to enjoy the game the love.
Karen Harris, Managing Director of Orange Fox said:
“Orange Fox Electrical contribute as much as they can to their local community and believe that giving something back is an important part of their values.
“We know the exceptional work that the Foundation do and we are proud of our contribution to their vital support when working with children and young adults.
“We were delighted to offer our expertise when providing the infrastructure for the electrical supply and commissioning of the new defibrillator. This life saving equipment is located at The Nest.”
Thank you to our partners, Orange Fox Electrical, for their continued support and sponsorship, and for installing this vital piece of kit at our Community Hub.
