Today marks the start of a new era for CSF
Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF), launched today with an event attended by partners, trustees and ambassadors that took place at the Top of the City function room at Carrow Road.
The event, hosted by sports broadcaster and charity ambassador, Jake Humphrey, showcased the Foundations aims and goals to deliver quality, innovative services through football and sport with inspiring speeches from CSF Chairman Kevan Platt and Director Ian Thornton as they spoke about the history of CSF and how they are changing to move forward in the future.
Director Ian Thornton explains why the changes are happening; “Over the 19 years many different activities and projects have been developed that are not solely about football and nearly 40% of our current activities are based around delivering many different sports. So following the research that we undertook we felt that we were not portraying what we really do and how much difference we really make to the community.”
CSF currently help over 50,000 people a year achieve their goals through sport, supporting some of the most disadvantaged, disabled and talented people across Norfolk. Micheal Douglas, a former member on CSF’s Street Life Soccer course shared his story of how the charity had helped him turn his life around after he had found himself homeless before the new ambassadors spoke of their pride to represent the charity.
The new ambassadors in attendance were Jake Humphrey (sports broadcaster), Delia Smith (NCFC Director), Mick Dennis (Sports writer and broadcaster, Football Foundation Chairman), Dean Ashton (Former Norwich and England international), Craig Fleming (Former Norwich City FC Captain), and Iwan Roberts (Former Norwich City FC and Welsh international) with Simon Thomas (Sky Sports presenter) and Danny Nobbs (Paralympic shot putt) unfortunately not able to make it. Director Ian Thornton explains the roles of the new ambassadors;” The foundation has eight new ambassadors that have agreed to champion the charity as local role models to help raise aspirations, attend and promote fundraising events and offer support advice and guidance in their areas of expertise.”
