Foundation's walking footballers reach Semi's in EFL Trust Cup

The Community Sports Foundation’s Walking Football team bowed out of the EFL Trust Walking Football Cup last weekend, though not before reaching the Semi-Finals.

The team, who were representing the Canaries, were taking part in the East Regional stage of the Cup held in Luton, with a spot in the National Finals at stake.

The group stage saw the Canaries enjoy a 3-0 victory over Peterborough United, a 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers and a 3-2 defeat to the hosts – enough to qualify them for the next round.

A victory over Oxford United in the Quarters, primed the side up for a Semi against a strong Colchester United outfit where they were ultimately defeated 3-0.

This was the second time the Canaries have been represented in the tournament, with the 2015 team reaching the Finals stages of the tournament, which is always held at The FA’s prestigious St. George’s Park.

CSF Health Coach Ashley Fountain accompanied the side to Luton, and had this to say:

“There were some strong sides out there, so it was always going to be a tough route to the Finals

It’s been a great opportunity nonetheless – it’s always a fantastic experience to represent the Canaries and play in their colours, and the guys did the club proud.”

The Foundation’s Walking Football team recently took part in the FA People’s Cup, where they also reached the Semi-Final stage.

Walking Football is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries.

The sport has seen a surge in popularity recently, and EFL community trusts around the country run regular sessions.

The Foundation’s Walking Football team train once-a-week on Mondays (3.30pm-4.30pm) at Carrow Park.

New recruits are always welcome, and a first-taster session is free.
