Over 500 players enjoy the return of our flagship tournament

The Summer Cup returned in triumphant fashion, as 55 teams and over 500 players joined us for two days of festival football held at The Nest.

A celebratory and supportive atmosphere from the spectators boosted the young players as they served up some entertaining and well-contested fixtures on immaculate pitches, which included The Nest’s Norfolk Hire Arena for the first time.

For many of the teams in the youngest age category, this was their first taste of festival football – with some playing their first ever matches.

In terms of the competitive age groups – U9s and up – in the mixed tournament, Waveney FC (Panthers) won the U9 tournament, with Wymondham Town United FC (Hawks) winning the U10s. Gorleston Rangers FC (Falcons) and Blofield United FC took home the silverware in the U12s and U14s girls tournaments respectively.

As well as the action on the pitch, visitors enjoyed BBQ food and refreshments from The Nest’s catering team.

Lewis Plowman, the Foundation’s Football Operations Manager said: “After so long without festival and tournament football, the weekend was a huge reminder of what we were missing. Matches were played in a competitive but friendly spirit, and support from spectators and coaches was perfect.

“We knew The Nest would be a great tournament venue once the final phase of building work was completed, but we weren’t quite prepared for just how wonderful a venue it would be. We look forward to hosting more tournaments here!”
