Foundation keen to support men across Norfolk to lose weight

The Community Sports Foundation (CSF) are proud to have partnered up with Man V Fat Football to support men across the county getting more physically active.

Man v Fat Football is a 14 week football league only for men who want to lose weight.

The programme launched in Norfolk in January 2018 and has seen 60 players lose over 370 kg between them.

Across the national leagues more than 90 per cent of players have lost weight and 93 per cent of players have reported health improvements.

Uniquely, the league is decided not just on points won, but pounds lost. Players weigh in before every game and so the final results are decided not just on the score on the pitch, but as a result of goal bonuses that teams earn from their weight loss.

This enables players with limited mobility and disabilities to join the teams and still be a top performer for their side, simply by losing weight each week.

James Bondon joined the free league in January. He said:

“Man v Fat has been a great way to lose weight and also play football again – something I thought I was never going to do.

“It’s been good fun, all the guys have a great attitude, they’re friendly and supportive and the staff that run the programme are knowledgeable, helpful and supportive too.”

CSF Physical Activity and Wellbeing Officer Gillian Wood added:

“The impact the programme has had on the players’ everyday lives is huge, not just physically but mentally. Everyone has their weeks where they struggle but then with the support of the players around them it soon picks them back up.

“It really is a social physical session but the added competitiveness and the scoring system is what makes the players really feel encouraged to lose the weight they may not have lost otherwise.”

The second season of the Man v Fat Football programme launches at 7pm on the 1st of June 2018 and will run every Friday (excluding bank holidays) for the following 14 weeks.
