MP attends health workshop at City College
Chloe Smith, Conservative MP for Norwich North, joined a group of level 3 sports students who were taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme at City College Norwich last month.
The local MP attended a series of workshops and spent time talking to the participants, NCS leaders and college staff.
Over 45 students from across the college got involved in the highly engaging and interactive sessions, which were delivered by local charities Terrence Higgins Trust and Safe Haven.
Later this month, as part of the NCS programme, the students will deliver a sports-focused social action project in the community. They will be running events to raise awareness of the importance of health and exercise, in settings such as a local care homes and a primary school.
The students will also be raising money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and other local charities through sport-related fundraising challenges.
This group are just some of the 200 young people from Norfolk taking part in the NCS programme this autumn.
Chloe Smith MP commented:
“I urge any Norwich young person to look at NCS. It’s easy to sign up and could change your life. I’m so impressed by the collaboration with charities like Safe Haven and Terrence Higgins because this brings real-life themes and skills to the programme.”
The National Citizen Service (NCS) runs in Norfolk for Year 11s/12s, providing young people with the opportunity to take part in residential camps and social action projects in their local communities.
The Community Sports Foundation (CSF) deliver the programme in the summer and autumn as part of the NCS East group run by Reed in Partnership.
