Four previous 'Player of the Season' winners join cast of returning Canaries

The Norwich City Legends squad for the upcoming match against Inter Forever has been bolstered by the addition of four Barry Butler Memorial Trophy winning players.

Darren Eadie, Gary Holt, Lee Croft, and Spencer Prior each won the Club’s ‘Player of the Season’ accolade during their City careers, and will join a star-studded cast of returning Canaries for the fundraiser on May 20.

The match, proudly supported by club Community Partner Aviva, marks 25 years since Mike Walker’s Canaries made a memorable run in the UEFA Cup, and will raise funds to the build the Community Sports Foundation’s new hub, ‘The Nest’.

Both Spencer Prior and Darren Eadie featured in City’s European adventure; Eadie made his professional debut against Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem in the first round, while centre-back Spencer Prior played the full 90 minutes at the San Siro against Inter Milan.

Eadie would go on to make over 200 appearances for the Canaries, scooping the Barry Butler award after a fine season in 1997.

Prior – himself the winner of the award in 1996 – is fresh off a successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 qualification campaign, as head coach of Thailand.

Combative Scottish international Gary Holt made 182 appearances for the Canaries, before two spells on the coaching staff at Colney as Assistant Academy Manager and later as First Team Coach.

Tricky winger Lee Croft earned the Barry Butler Trophy for his performances during City’s 2008-09 campaign, and he made over 100 appearances for the Club before departing for Derby County.

Inter Forever have mirrored City’s squad additions, by unveiling four more players of their own – Alessandro Bianchi, Massimo Paganin, Francesco Colonnese, and Giuseppe Baresi.

Duo Alessandro Bianchi and Massimo Paganin both played against City during the 1993-94 UEFA Cup run, and were subsequently involved in the victorious two-leg final against Austria Salzburg.

Also enjoying European success while at the Nerazzurri was defender Francesco Colonnese, who lifted the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1998.

An Italian international like his legendary younger brother Franco, Giuseppe Baresi captained Inter for four seasons, and represented Italy at both the 1980 European Championships and the 1986 World Cup Finals.

Bianchi, Paganin, Colonnese and Baresi join a glittering ensemble of legends for Inter Forever that includes the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann, Javier Zanetti, Marco Materazzi and Francesco Toldo.
