Build The Nest - an update

In 2018, we launched a campaign called #BuildTheNest in order to build a multi-purpose community hub in Horsford, on the site of disused sports ground.

The initial £1.5m phase of development has already taken place, and in September, ”The Nest” was officially opened. Since that date, over 6000 people have used the site including participants on our Football & Education programme, local grassroots football teams, and members of our disability programme, among many others.

The #BuildTheNest campaign aims to raise money for further development on the site and plans for phase two that were unveiled last year included an indoor sports hall, a multi-purpose studio, classrooms, a gym, and a full-sized 3G football pitch.

However, the Foundation recently received the news that our campaign has not been successful in securing a large pot of funding, which was essential to delivering several of these proposed elements during the next phase of development.

In reaction to this news, the team are currently working on revised plans for the second phase that can be delivered within an attainable funding target.

Jackie Thornton, Head of Development for the Foundation said:

“Whilst it was disappointing to miss out on this particular source of funding, we are determined to move forward with a second phase of development that will add to the already impressive impact that The Nest has begun to make.

“Our long term aspirations for The Nest remain the same – to invest in and build an iconic hub for the community that tackles issues such as poor social mobility and inactivity, and raises the skills, aspirations and wellbeing of people in Norfolk.

“We will reveal our new plans for the next phase when we have been through the revision process with our technical team.”
