Aviva Summer Cup Wraps Up in Glorious Sunshine

Nine thrilling finals decided over two days at Redmayne Playing Fields

The Community Sports Foundation's 2011 Aviva Summer Cup drew to a close on Sunday evening after a fantastic two day festival of football.

Nine age groups were decided over the weekend as over 180 teams battled it out across 15 pitches for the right to call themselves champions.

Tuesday's Eastern Daily Press will feature a fantastic 8 page souvenir pull-out from the weekend.

Saturday's action saw Dereham Town Hawkers claim the U11 title after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Taverham Leopards.

A single goal was enough to lift Stalham Sharks to victory over East Coast Warriors in the U9 final, whilst a penalty shootout was needed to separate Hemsby Hornets and Harling Colts in the U13 event; the former emerging as 6-5 winners.

The first two titles of a Norwich City Girls' hat-trick came on Saturday as the U11 and U13 sides won their finals against Sprowston and Bohemians respectively.
The U15s completed the trophy haul on Sunday when they overturned a determined Great Yarmouth team.

A strong second half performance from Kirkley and Pakefield in the U10 final proved the difference as they beat Old Catton 3-0 to lift the cup on a sun-drenched day two.

East Coast Warriors' 2-0 defeat of Waveney Youth earned them the U12 trophy before Old Cattton Tigers won by the same margin against Jex Rangers 'A' in the U14 final.

U7 and U8 teams took part in non-competitive games over the weekend and spectators and referees were impressed with the level of football.

Adult and Child Disability Sessions took place on the inflatable pitch as part of the Aviva Ability Counts Programme; a great time was had by all.
